One skill I’ve been trying to develop is wild plant identification and especially of the varieties that are edible or can be used medicinally. There are a lot of good books out there but I have found YouTube especially helpful, particularly  Gregg Carter from The Rural Economist and his Video Series on YouTube dealing with wild edibles. Gregg has been on my podcast a couple of times talking about other homesteading topics but he has a vast knowledge on this topic as well. I suggest you go and check out his videos if you have any desire to develop this skill and increase your knowledge of such things.

Homestead Updates

As some of you noticed I took about a four month break away from the blog and podcast, things just got a little too busy for a while and a few things had to give if I was going to maintain my sanity :). With the return of Spring and some nice weather I have been newly inspired to share the gardening and homesteading bug. I have seedlings growing in Windows all over my house right now awaiting their transplant into the garden. Two new Apple trees are on there way as well as a cherry tree. Have plans to put in a couple more blueberry, blackberry and raspberry as I just recently prepared a new place for them. Everything else I have going on right now is just the normal things I have to do every Spring to try and get things up and running after a long winter. While these things can be a little tedious sometimes , when it’s all done  I really enjoy being outside and enjoying the fruit of all my labor. Hopefully you are doing all you can to maintain and expand your homestead as well and benefiting from all your labor.

Maybe I’m a little odd but I find I often need a little encouragement in my life in order to stay motivated and not get overly discouraged. One way I have found to provide this is through listening or reading the amazing and inspiring stories of others. I ran across this podcast by Mike Rowe the other day and found it to be just what I was needing for the day, I think you may enjoy it as well so go and give it a listen. Mike Rowe, The Way I Heard It is a series of short stories for the curious mind with a short attention span.
