Achocha Cucumber Seeds

I got my Achocha Fat Baby Cucumber Seeds In the mail I ordered the other day from An American Homestead. Is it weird that I get excited over seeds?


I did a little research online trying to find out a little more about this plant so I could find out planting times and time to maturity and such and what I discovered is there is not a lot of information out there about these cucumbers. The best I could figure out is that it’s too late to plant these this year so I will have to wait until spring.

First Zucchini Bread Of The Year

I’m one of those people who doesn’t struggle with what to do with all my zucchini, between the pasta, bread and fried slices we always seem to use it up pretty good. There is no doubt about it though, zucchini bread is my favorite.

Composting Toilets

This seems to be the topic no one wants to talk about but it’s an important one none the less. We recently had a main sewer line problem that cost us a whole weekend of work and it got me thinking about compost toilets. I did a little research and found out like anything else there are primitive setups and state of the art systems. These more advanced systems are much more expensive but I believe would be worth the money. I thought the one in this video was the best, check it out.

  1. Ooh, achocha is an exciting plant, you’ll love it 🙂 They’re not hard to grow – in a climate with cold winters you treat them as you would climbing beans. You can sow them indoors and then harden them off and plant them out when the risk of frost has passed. It’s easy to miss the flowers (although beneficial insects love them!); the fruits are best eaten young unless you want to try stuffing them! Have fun 🙂
